Today I'm thrilled to announce the biggest release of 2024: Motion v3. We've been hard at work reimagining the way you interact with Motion to make your daily workflow smoother and more efficient. This update brings a brand-new navigation system, bulk operations, and an enhanced activity feed for tasks and projects.
A Redesigned Navigation Sidebar
One of the most noticeable changes is our new navigation sidebar. Previously, Motion's main navigation tabs—Calendar, Projects, and Booking—were located at the top of the interface. While functional, we wanted to make it even faster for you to move between different parts of the product.
- Account Controls at the Top: Your account actions are now easily accessible at the top of the sidebar.
- Unified Help, Settings, and Search: We've grouped Help, Settings, and Search together for quick access. You can access it through
⌘Kon Mac,ctrlkon Windows - Redesigned "Up Next" Control: The "Up Next" feature now mirrors your calendar items more closely. Meetings, events, and tasks each have distinct icons and colors, matching your personalized settings.
- Powerful Sidebar Search (Shortcut:
⌥S): Navigate quickly through workspaces and projects by filtering the sidebar. Just press⌥Sand start typing. (On windows it'salts) - Easy Access to Aggregators: All Tasks, All Projects, and Team Schedule are now prominently featured, each with their own shortcuts.
- New Tutorial Section: Dive into our new Motion tutorial series directly from the sidebar to learn how to make the most of the app.
- Past-Due Control: Stay on top of overdue items with the new past-due indicator.
- Workspace Section: All your workspaces and projects are neatly organized for quick navigation. Additional Enhancements:
- Booking Links in Calendar: Find and set up your booking links directly within the Calendar tab.
- Calendar Picker and Controls: Manage your calendars and frequently met contacts from the right side of the Calendar view.
- Agenda View Toggle: Expand or collapse your agenda view to see more or fewer events as needed. This new sidebar is designed to help you get wherever you need to go quickly, with new keyboard shortcuts to speed up navigation even more. We're also laying the groundwork for future features like favorites and folders.
Introducing Bulk Operations
Bulk operations have been one of our most requested features, and we're excited to deliver. Managing multiple tasks is now more efficient than ever. How It Works:
- Select Multiple Tasks: Click to select individual tasks or select an entire group by clicking on the header.
- Bulk Edit: Change priorities, durations, and other task properties for all selected tasks at once.
- Quick Actions: Use the "Select All" and "Deselect All" options for faster task management.
Enhanced Activity Feed
We've overhauled the activity feed for tasks and projects to make it more informative and user-friendly. New Features:
- Collapsible Updates: Multiple updates made at the same time are automatically collapsed into a single line for a cleaner view.
- Visual Enhancements: Icons have been added to activity items, making it easier to identify different types of changes at a glance.
- Comprehensive Logging: Every change made to a project or task is now logged, providing a complete audit trail.
